As an artist, I am so grateful we live in the digital age. Don't get me wrong, I don't love everything digital. I would prefer it if my teenage son didn't have his nose in a phone whenever I saw him, and it would be nice if I could watch a movie without first entering a password for my Netflix account, but for an artist, having access to the world via the internet and the ability to send a portfolio in seconds changes the game. The most recent technology for me, that has really been a game changer, has been the new portable tablets I can use for art making. In particular, the ipad pro has given me the ability to sketch up ideas, in full color, quickly and whenever I want. In addition to convenience, some of its apps can create finished illustrations complete with realistic paint textures, effects and with a high enough pixel count to compete with desktop PCs! These are really amazing tools for artists.

My background is in traditional drawing and painting and I will always produce work using these tried and true methods, but having the ability to sketch digitally only speeds up the work time if you are using traditional materials and techniques. 

My latest works combines mid-century sensibilities, cubism and pop-art, using well known comic heroes as subject matter. For the past five years I have taken my family to the Emerald City Comic Con. Mostly for my geeky obsession for these kind of things, but also it's a tradition that we all enjoy. We have also folded a couple of my kids friends into the tradition, and I value these gatherings greatly. SO, this new body of work is really just combing a lot of things that touch my soul and I am producing my images in a very modern way.
